It’s been a while since we heard any news updates on the production of Taylor Lautner’s “Abduction.” In February it was announced that Lionsgate had bought up the film (which already had Taylor attached to it) for $1 mil, and in late March the Los Angeles Times reported that “Boyz n the Hood” director John Singleton had signed on to helm the film.
As a quick refresher, “Abduction” follows the story of a man who discovers the parents who raised him aren’t his biological father and mother, and when he reaches out to his real ones, he gets caught up in a web of espionage and intrigue and has to run for his life. The film is being classified as a thriller, which is a first for both Taylor and John.
But, finally, new casting news has reached our ears. Deadline: Hollywood got the scoop that Lily Collins will be playing Taylor’s girlfriend, who will be caught up in the web of government secrets along with her bf. You know Lily from her role as Sandra Bullock’s daughter in “The Blind Side,” and she also just finished wrapping “Priest” with Stephen Moyer and Cam Gigandet. We don’t have much to say about Lily getting cast except for the fact she’ll be a newbie to the catch-me-if-you-can thriller genre as well.
Filming on “Abduction” is set to start in 12 weeks on location in Pittsburgh, Penn., Deadline reports. Lionsgate seems to want filming to get wrapped and out of the way over the summer so there will be no conflicts with Taylor’s fall commitment to “Breaking Dawn.” “Abduction” is slated for a 2012 release date.
