Xavier Samuel
In the "Bad Vampires" panel, Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel talked at length about their experience as newbies in the Twilight Saga.
Gracefully, Howard dealt with the question as to how she felt upon receiving the role, saying the situation was "complex" and that she had already been a fan of the Twilight series (she'd read all of the books and seen the films) and regarded Rachelle Lefevre's performance in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon as the character "Victoria" to be "extraordinary." So, for her, she revealed, continuity was key.
Xavier Samuel, who blushed from all of the audience praise for his good looks, revealed that he'd just wrapped filming for Anonymous and that in the film he portrays an Elizabethan character with long, blonde locks of hair (the film is about, he said, the real writers of Shakespeares plays, and it's a thriller).
Samuel also recounted his first meeting with Stephenie Meyer, noting that she is "amazing" and "so beautiful," though he was nervous about the meeting at first. Bryce Dallas Howard chimed in to say that she also adored Stephenie Meyer. Samuel also praised Meyer's ability to give creative reign to the film director, David Slade, who Samuel also stated was "an awesome person."
Howard also, when asked a question about her work on The Village, praised M. Night Shaymalan and Jackson Rathbone's work in the forthcoming release The Last Airbender, saying that she loved the film and hopes that Twilight fans will squeeze it in.
One question for Samuel that had the audience rolling was whether he'd ever been mistaken for Robert Pattinson. Xavier Samuel said, quite charmingly, that no, that had absolutely never happened.
After the "Bad Vampires" panel, the "Twilight Saga" panel with Gil Birmingam, Christian Serratos, and Daniel Cudmore came on, and the three were, as usual, quite fun on the stage.
Birmingham talked a bit about his recently wrapped film co-starring Chaske Spencer entitled Shouting Secrets. He said that it was a "no money" project but that he was really excited about the picture. Also, he joked that he'd like to continue as the character Billy Black well past The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - a look at how far a man in a wheelchair can go, he suggested.
Cudmore and Serratos also talked about the kind of films they'd be interested in doing in the future. Cudmore fielded a suggestion that he take back on the X-Men series, saying it'd be "really cool, actually," but he said that the idea of portraying a villain in a James Bond flick would fulfill some long-seated familial history with the series. Serratos, she said, would like to portray a mentally ill character, saying it would be "really fun."
So far, it's been a really fun day watching these panels, and the day is far from over. Head over the live blog around 4:00 p.m. EST for more from the remaining panels, including one with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner at 7:00 p.m.!
