A few weeks ago, Michael Welch ("Mike Newton" in the Twilight series films) let his followers on Twitter know that he'd be back to reprise his part in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1.
"It looks like I will be back for Part 1! WooHOOO!! Part 2, I'm not sure yet."In the book, his character appears in Breaking Dawn as a guest at [*spoiler warning*] the wedding of "Bella" and "Edward Cullen" but is not discussed past that point. So, since it's all but guaranteed that this portion of the story will conclude in Part 1, Welch's return for that and not the second makes sense.
Team Twilight got the chance to speak to Welch after a screening of his newest film Unrequited, and he discussed a bit about his involvement with the Saga.
Though he admits to not having read the script for Breaking Dawn - Part 1 yet, Welch regards his work in The Twilight Saga: New Moon to be his "peak in the franchise" and expects he'll "probably get at least as much screen time in Breaking Dawn" as he did in Eclipse. "[I]n Eclipse I had my little cafeteria scene and then I had the graduation with that stupid look on my face sitting behind Bella and Edward in soft focus."
The New Moon theater scene, he says, is what he considers his "mark on the Twilight franchise, that little 3 1/2 minutes and the cafeteria."
