When Joanne Blahitka, 65, lost her husband, she might have spiraled into grief and depression, but when her granddaughter talked to her about the “Twilight” series of novels as her current favorite thing, Joanne picked up the first book. “Robert Pattinson (the male lead in the movies) reminds me of James Dean,” she says of her particular interest in the young actor’s skyrocketing career.
She now talks with her granddaughter and her adult daughter about the “Twilight” movies and books, upcoming projects and Pattinson’s upcoming movie “Water for Elephants.” Her daughter laughs that there are more photos of Pattinson on her mom’s refrigerator than there are of her, but she’s thrilled that Joanne has found an engaging interest that’s bringing her life a new joy.
