Questions and Answers
MundoHispano: How has your life changed the success of Twilight?
ALEX MERAZ: Very much so. The main thing was it gave me the push I needed to let me know in Hollywood. Before I had to fight hard in the auditions, I now offer many more. In addition, the public knows me and is very satisfying when they come to me for an autograph or take a picture.
MH: How do you audition for the role of Paul in New Moon?
AM: It was not typical. It happened about a year and a half. Having no money to travel to the casting of Phoenix to Los Angeles sent a video I recorded with the help of my acting coach Raoul Trujillo. Originally auditioned for the role of Sam, the leader of the wolf pack. But in the end the director Chris Weitz gave me the role of Paul, who is the “most evil and playful ‘wolves of the boys.
MH: How did you prepare for playing Paul?
AM: In the books Jacob and Paul are almost identical and the film had to look physically. For a couple of months I started lifting weights and doing exercises to gain 15 pounds of muscle since in our shirtless scenes.
MH: Did you know that the ‘wolf pack’ were written for Native Americans?
AM: At first no, but after reading the script I realized. And I find it amazing that all the actors who play the “boys” wolves “have indigenous roots. It is very refreshing to see that it is written roles for Native aside stereotypes.
MH: Is it true that you have roots Purépecha?
AM: That’s right, my mom is from Michoacan. My grandfather was a shaman in the village of Ostula, southwest of the state in Mexico.
MH: Have you visited Michoacan?
AM: Yes, the first time was about two years and the second as six. I remember that to get the people travel by bus and then walked quite a mountain. I remember I ate iguana and costumes of the people with white cotton clothes and sandals. The landscape and its people are wonderful.
MH: The press and public have praised much your physique, who do you think has a better body or you Taylor?
AM: No doubt Taylor.
MH: What else have you enjoyed that Eclipse?
AM: Everything. In this third film actors have more chemistry, more and improve our performance. Above all, I enjoy that more action and that will attract not only girls but also men to go see it. I think it’s the best of the three deliveries.
