New 'On The Road' Stills From Moviehole

Reader ‘Courtney’ sent over some scans from the June issue of UK film mag “Total Film” which feature a couple of new (I believe?) stills from “On the Road”, the Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund starrer based on the 1957 novel by Jack Kerouac.
They’ve started sneaking the pic to a few select parties apparently and the buzz on it is very, very good, with many claiming “Twilight” star Stewart’s performance will turn quite a few heads (she is quite a good actress; did you see “In the Land of Women”?) and silence even more cynics (who believe she’s ‘Bella’ and nothing more); Hedlund too – who was terrific, I thought anyway, in “Tron Legacy” – is apparently great. The film is out sometime this year. Read more.

Kristen Stewart gets naked in “On the Road”

Will Kristen Stewart take it all off in “On the Road”? According to Hollywood Life’s Stephanie Wenger and Russ Weakland, Stewart “doesn’t shy away from being constantly naked. In fact, she is nude in her very first scene and it only gets more racy from there.” Source Via @lionandlamblove.

Stewart will be playing the role of Marylou, who is believed to be based on real-life associate of Kerouac, Luanne Henderson, one of the earliest of the Beat muses who did much to inspire and inflame the passions of Kerouac. She was married to well-known Beatnik, Neal Cassady, for a time, until they had their marriage annulled so he could marry his pregnant girlfriend. Described as “beautiful with long curly hair, blue eyes and a wild spirit”, her character features prominently in “On the Road” and under other aliases in Kerouac’s other works.

In “On the Road”, Marylou marries, then divorces, Dean, yet carries on a love affair with him irrespective of their divorce. Added to the mix is Dean’s friend, Sal, who sleeps with Marylou as well. In addition to sex scenes with each, the movie script will reportedly depict a threesome that takes place in the back seat of a car.

The upcoming film will not be Stewart’s first role as a young, oversexed teen. She played underage stripper and prostitute Mallory in last year’s “Welcome to the Rileys.”

The "Twilight" crowd, the morning after: They've branched out into other roles before. But 2011 will bring moments of truth for all three lead actors in the "Twilight" franchise: Robert Pattinson in the period circus drama "Water for Elephants" (coming in April), Taylor Lautner in the teen fugitive thriller "Abduction" (coming in July) and Kristen Stewart in the adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" (date TBD). The last two movies in the franchise that made them famous are shooting now. Who among them can fashion the most productive post-Forks career?

"Kerouac Unbound
At last: the manuscript of On the Road, which Jack Kerouac typed 56 years ago on a 120-foot scroll of drafting paper, is reissued as he intended it.

It is my strange fate to have been with Jack Kerouac shortly after midnight on September 5, 1957, at the very moment he finished reading the historic New York Times review of On the Road by Gilbert Millstein, which instantly established him as the "avatar" of the Beat Generation, predicting that On the Road would prove to be as important a book as Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. Given limited distribution for some of Kstew’s other recent indie flicks (e.g., “The Runaways”, “Welcome to the Rileys”) it is encouraging news that makers of the upcoming film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” have already announced far-reaching distribution plans.

Heard recently at Cannes and confirmed via IMDB Pro, Icon Film Distribution of Great Britain and Icon Film Distribution of Australia were announced as regional distributors of the film. For the Great Britain branch, this translates to theatrical distribution in Ireland and all media distribution in the UK. For the Australian arm, this means theatrical distribution in New Zealand and all media distribution in Australia.

Other distribution rights for the film had already been sold to other regions—Cinearts holds rights for Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg (Benelux), and Concorde Filmverleih for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.

In addition to Kristen, who has been confirmed for the role of Marylou (widely known to be parallel real-life associate of Kerouac, Luanne Henderson), other confirmed cast members for “On the Road” include Kirsten Dunst (as Camille), Sam Riley (as Sal Paradise), and Garrret Hedlund (as protagonist Dean Moriarty).

The film is a portrayal of Kerouac’s own Beatnik experience, which rejected social norms of materialism while embracing taboos around sexuality and drugs. TIME Magazine critics Lev Grossman and Richard Lacayo named “On the Road” among the 100 Best American Novels written since 1923, calling it “the book that launched a thousand trips”.
