Official Twilight Saga page on Facebook tells us that :
NEW YORK, NY (December 13, 2010) – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, and Stephenie Meyer have donated 1.5 million dollars to the American Red Cross International Response Fund from their proceeds from The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: an Eclipse Novella. As previously announced, one dollar for each book sold in the US from the first printing would go to the American Red Cross.  The donation was made today by Hachette Book Group CEO David Young and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Publisher Megan Tingley to The American Red Cross Senior Vice President of International Services David Meltzer.

“I’m so grateful that Little, Brown, the American Red Cross, and my fans made this generous gift possible,” said Stephenie Meyer.  “It’s amazing to have the opportunity to help those so greatly in need.”

“We’ve had the incredible great fortune to have one of the biggest publishing phenomenons in recent years along with The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner becoming one of the top selling titles of 2010,” said Hachette Book Group CEO David Young.  “Giving back is extremely important to the company, so it is particularly gratifying to be able to share our success with an organization as worthy as The American Red Cross.”

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12th the International Response Fund (IRF) afforded the American Red Cross the ability to provide immediate funding for food and other urgently needed emergency relief items.

“The generous contribution of Little, Brown to the IRF is essential to the ability of the American Red Cross to provide help and hope for people during their darkest hours,” said David Meltzer of the American Red Cross. “After the devastating Haiti earthquake, which took the lives of more than 230,000 people, the IRF allowed us to quickly purchase, ship and distribute aid. The Red Cross is extremely grateful for the support Little, Brown is providing toward our humanitarian mission.”

'Eclipse' Director David Slade Explains How The 'Bree Tanner' Book Ties Into The Movie

Hi Twilight Stars!!
hollywoodcrush.mtv.com has this interview with David!!
Enjoy :)
via @hollywoodcrush

A couple weeks back, after "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" was released, we came up with a list of scenes we figured (and hoped) would make it into the final cut of the film. According to director David Slade, though, we shouldn't get our hopes to high.

He received a copy of "Short Second Life" about halfway through pre-production on "Eclipse," and said that what it affected more than anything was the location and casting choices for the film.

"One of the things in the 'Bree Tanner' story is that one of the hangouts is very close to water and so we specifically went after locations that were near water," he said as an example, with tied in with our earlier article.

Beyond that, he said that he used Riley and Victoria's choice of newborn vampires to inform their casting decisions. "They take the dregs of society," he said as a way of explanation. "They take, not the dregs, but the people that won't be missed. They take the prostitutes, they take drug addicts, they take people on the street, so that we cast people to look like that. It was fun."

What that makes it sound like is that we won't be seeing too many of those scenes we guessed we could in "Eclipse," though there might be a bigger reason for that, and maybe David isn't completely done with the world of "The Twilight Saga" after "Eclipse."

"We didn't actually skew the entire film to fit ['Short Second Life']," he said. "I maintain that little book will [still] make a great film."

Bree Tanner Rocking the UK Sales Charts

As you all now, the new book of Stephenie Meyer "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" hit the stores on June, 5. Here's an article of the UK newspaper The Guardian about the success of the book.
Thanks to TwilightLexicon for the news!
via @twilightlexcion with @guardian

“Meyer’s The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, told from the perspective of a newly created vampire, was published in the UK at 5.05am on 5 June and went on to sell almost 90,000 copies that day – taking the number one slot “by a hefty margin”, according to book sales monitor Nielsen BookScan. This is despite Meyer making the book available for free online until 5 July.

“People were queuing at our Milton Keynes branch from 4.30am,” said Waterstone’s spokesman Jon Howells. Copies of the strictly-embargoed book were delivered to Waterstone’s Piccadilly branch in a coffin.

“It’s our fastest-selling book so far this year and it may be the fastest-selling book of the year … it will be pretty tough to beat it,” Howells said. “It’s our biggest book since Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. Offering it online for free is a nice touch [but] I don’t think it’s a big deal. Pretty much every Twilight fan will want not just to read it, but also to own it. It’s shaping up to be a big ‘un.”

The New York Times Bestseller list that The Second Short Life of Bree Tanner qualifies for won’t be out until June 20. There is always a two-week lag between release and tracking for that list. Other noted lists like The Wall street journal and USA today should be available next week.

Stephenie Meyer answers questions about ‘Bree Tanner’

Hi Twilight Stars!!
bellasdiary.com (EA) has this interview with Stephenie..
Love Her!!

Excerpts from a Q&A, released by publisher Little, Brown, with Stephenie Meyer about The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.

Q: Bree only appears in a couple pages of Eclipse. What was it about the character that made you want to explore her story further?

A: In the beginning, I wasn’t fascinated specifically by Bree — it was the newborns in general. While I was writing Eclipse, there was a lot going on behind the scenes, of course, things Bella didn’t know about. Because I was focused on Bella, I couldn’t delve too deeply into the newborns’ story, however, there was always in my mind a general idea of what they were up to. I had to think about that while I was pacing the plot: Bella is at this point, the newborns are doing this. To keep it all straight, eventually I made a calendar of the months of May and June — which is all Eclipse deals with — and wrote down on each square what was going on with Bella that day and what was happening in Seattle. So the story of the newborns was always a big part of the story of Eclipse. And it made me kind of sad that there was no way to express any of that in the book.

Bree is the only newborn mentioned by name in Eclipse, the only newborn who has contact with the Cullens (aside from being killed by them), and the only newborn who encounters the Volturi in the clearing. She lives the longest, so she is the narrator who can tell the full story. She was a natural choice to chronicle the story of the newborns. Once I started writing from her perspective, she really came alive. So much so that, as the inevitable end got closer, it was really depressing going ahead. It was harder for me to kill Bree than any other fiction character I’ve ever killed, even though I was killing her for the second time. (Before Bree, the saddest was Walter in The Host.)

Q: Why do you feel it is important for people to read Bree’s story prior to the release of the Eclipse movie?

A: Eclipse is told from only Bella’s perspective. That has some limitations; when there is so much going on off-stage (so to speak), it leaves a lot of mysteries. The films have the advantage of seeing the story from outside of Bella’s head. The viewer can see things — like the wolves hunting Victoria in New Moon— that the reader only gets hints of. Of all the Twilight books, Eclipse has the most going on outside of Bella’s view. For the movie to work, we have to see and understand some of these things.

Knowing that elements of Bree’s story were being incorporated into the movie, I hoped the story could somehow get out first. Personally, I always want to read a book before seeing the movie. I like to make my own mental pictures before someone else’s picture intrudes. Probably most of my readers don’t have the same hang-up, but for those who do, I wanted to give them the chance to create their own mental pictures of Bree and the gang.

Q: In which order would you recommend one read The Twilight Saga with the addition of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner? Should they follow Eclipse with the novella or finish Breaking Dawn before cracking the pages of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner?

A: If I were going to read the saga for the first time, I would probably read Bella’s story straight through before launching into other perspectives.

Q: Why did you choose the American Red Cross as your recipient charity for donations from the sale of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner?

A: I was very moved by the outpouring of support after the disaster in Haiti. A lot of Twilight fan communities did fundraising effort, and I was so impressed by their efforts. I wanted to continue that movement. I think it’s important that we not quickly forget Haiti and Chile now that they’re no longer the focus of the media. It takes a very long time to recover from such devastation and they still need our help.

New 'Twilight' book by Stephenie Meyer on the way

Hi Twilight Stars!!!
Awesome news are brought to us by examiner.com (EA) just read...
Definetely Cool!! Thanx Stephenie!!
It's a great day in the Twilight universe. Stephenie Meyer has just announced a new Twilight book, a novella entitled The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella!
Stephenie Meyer announced the publication in a new blog on her website, revealing that the book was an exercise in character development of "Bree" while writing Eclipse and that the book will be available to online readers for free. Those that actually purchase the book, though, will be helping the American Red Cross as $1 from each sale will be donated to the organization.
The book, Meyer revealed, was a surprise even to her as it was initially intended for inclusion in The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide but was far too long (nearly 200 pages).
Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew. So I dusted it off and finished it up for placement in the Guide.
At the same time, it came in handy for the Eclipse film. Melissa (Rosenberg, the screenwriter) had a ton of questions about what exactly was going on in Seattle, how Victoria managed things, what Riley was like, etc. I let her read what I had then, and later gave the whole thing to the director, David Slade. David asked if Xavier, Bryce, and Jodelle (Riley, Victoria, and Bree) could read it as well, so all the parties involved would end up having a really strong foundation for their characters before the cameras started rolling. I was pleased that this side of the story would make it into the film and was looking forward to including it in the Guide.
She posted a photograph of actress Jodelle Ferland (who portrays "Bree" in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse film, due this June) with ashes from the burning of her copy of the novella.
My publisher approached me with the idea of releasing the Bree story on its own. One of the major benefits of this plan was that it would be out before the movie, so people would get to know Bree before they saw her in the film. That made sense to me, and we decided to go ahead with it.
There was one thing I asked for: since this story had always been an extra for me, and was meant to be released with the Guide, I wanted to be able to offer it to my fans for free. You all have bought a ton of my books, and I wanted to give you this story as a gift. My publisher was awesome and embraced this idea.
We still wanted to also produce a physical book with a cool cover (see below) that you can add to your set if you like, but starting at noon on June 7th until July 5th, it will also be available online at
One other aspect of this release is the plan to give a more important gift to people who really need it. One dollar of each book purchased in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Haiti and Chile and other parts of the world where people are in great need. We're going to have an option online as well, so you can choose to make a donation if you want whenyou read the story online. I hope you will.
I think that we can really help a lot of people with this.
Meyer closed the blog entry by stating that she was "glad that after all this time cooling her heels in my files, Bree finally gets her chance to shine."
USA Today reports that the novella will be released on June 5th at 12:01 a.m., and 1.5 million copies will be printed to start. They also quoted Meyer to state that she is aware Twilight fans might be looking for Midnight Sun but that she's "not writing about vampires right now."
