For actor Edi Gathegi, playing Darwin in the upcoming “X-Men: First Class” movie is like fulfilling a childhood dream. He’s been a fan of the franchise since he was a boy.
In an interview with the Italian website Comicus, he was happy to talk about his character and his love for all things “X-Men.”
“I was a major X-Men fan as a youth,” he revealed. “I'd wake up every Saturday morning with my bowl of cereal glued to the tv screen enjoying my favorite comic brought to life as a cartoon.”
He described his character for people less familiar with Darwin, talking about the mutant’s skill at "reactive adaptation."

'Twilight's' Edi Gathegi will adapt as Darwin in 'X-Men: First Class'
Hitflix released that Edi Gathegi would be joining "X-Men First Class" it will be great to see Edi again in action. Thanks to Cullens News for the tip! Via @cullensnewscom.

Many fans were disappointed 20th Century Fox didn't have any sort of presence for "X-Men: First Class" at Comic-Con this past weekend, but that is most likely because director Matthew Vaughn is hard at work putting the final touches on the cast for the mutant thriller.
Vaughn, best known for "Kick-Ass" and "Stardust," has already recruited James McAvoy (Prof. Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost, aka The White Queen), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Alec Summer, aka Havoc) and Kevin Bacon to play a still unrevealed villain. Now, Deadline reports scene stealing Edi Gathegi, who portrayed the evil vampire Laurent in "Twilight" and "New Moon," will bring the lesser known Darwin to the big screen.
A mutant with the ability to adapt to any environment, Darwin actually has the potential to be one of the more powerful X-Men. The character is actually a recent creation, first appearing in the "X-Men: Deadly Genesis" comic book mini-series just four years ago.
It's expected Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey (Marvel Girl) will also appear in the picture, but Vaughn is running out of time to cast the roles. Production needs to start momentary for the picture to make its June 3, 2011 release date.

'X-Men: First Class' producer really did want Taylor Lautner to star in it
Hey Everyone,
I have heard about this one since the Morning!
The producers wanted Taylor to be in X-Men: First Class...but with Breaking Dawn that cannot happen...
Thanks to our Elite Affie Twilight Examiner for the Tip!
Enjoy!

One noteworthy thing about the Twilight cast is that there will always be some kind of casting rumor associated with the big three - Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner - so when speculation arose as to whether Taylor Lautner would become a part of X-Men: FIrst Class, it could've easily been chalked up to sensationalism and rumor mill output.
However, MTV has just revealed that the film's producer, Bryan Singer, really did want Taylor Lautner to star in the film and that a serious conversation was had between himself and Lautner about the prospect.
"I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did," they quote him to tell Blastr. "He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction, and then he's got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot—he is a friend—and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."
Well, obviously things didn't work out with that, but it would have been a very interesting move on Lautner's part to take up another major franchise like the X-Men films. His The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse co-star Daniel Cudmore has experience in that franchise as well
