Seattle Art Museum to host Quileute legend exhibit

If you happen to be in the Seattle, Washington area on August 14th, and you want to learn more about the culture that inspired the Quileute Legends in the Twilight series, the Seattle Art Museum has the exhibit for you.

Starting August 14th, according to Seattle PI, the Seattle Art Museum will host a Behind the Scenes: the Real Story of Quileute Wolves exhibit.

According to the exhibit's listing on SAM's website, "The wolf is central to the cultural beliefs of the Quileute Native Peoples of coastal Washington, and wolf imagery is prominent in their art forms. 

According to oral traditions, the first Quileute were changed from wolves by the Transformer, Kwati; those ancestral beginnings figure significantly in the Quileute world view, even today . . . 

This exhibition consisting of about 30 objects seeks to provide a public platform for the display and interpretation of art works that represent Quileute wolf mythology specifically, and also the larger sphere of their beliefs about spirituality and transformation."

The exhibit will open "with a performance by a Quileute song and dance group . . . [and] Brotherton said she hopes 'Twilight' fans will visit the exhibit, and that teachers will capitalize on the craze in the classroom."

Melissa Rosenberg's Interview in Seattle's New Moon Release Party

I had the great privilege to do a one-on-one interview with Melissa before her public appearance. The store actually had a nice hospitality room hidden way in the back!

How did you end up in Seattle?

Melissa Rosenberg: I don't know, that's Summit's new genius at work. I jumped at the opportunity, of course, because I heard of all the great food up here! (laughs)

I hope you got a nice meal!

MR: I did! We went to Crush. It was great...terrific!

"Eclipse" comes out June 30. Leading up to that, I'm sure you have been getting so many questions about "Breaking Dawn." There's so much talk about choosing a director -- do you have any thoughts or feelings on that?

MR: You know, it's going to take someone who's got some stamina, because it's either going to be two movies or one very long one. So you're looking at investment of time and focus. Someone who can work on a schedule and on a budget. And someone who can work with both special effects and the talent, the actors. It takes a very unique individual who'll be able to do it.

Do you have any personal feelings about whether you want it to be one or two films?

MR: I personally would love for it to be two films. I feel like there may be too much story to try to tell in one. Those decisions are all being made, but I think it's a lot of story to be told in one.

Have you and Stephenie Meyer talked about it already?

MR: Yeah, we've been going back and forth. We've had story conversations…we're in the thick of it.

Of course everybody is so excited, and the general vote is for two films -- they want to prolong the saga, they don't want it to end!

MR: (laughs) Sure, sure.

The Creation Entertainment Official Twilight Convention that is being held this weekend in Seattle is shaping up to be quite the event. Currently slated there are appearances by Peter Facinelli, Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Kiowa Gordon, Dan Cudmore, and Charlie Bewley.
Pel will be making the Lexicon’s three presentations, and she’s also be joining Twilight Facebook’s Lauren on a panel. Another newcomer to the official convention this weekend is Lana Veenker. If you have acting aspirations, this is one panel you DON’T want to miss.  Lana (who helped to cast Twilight) will be talking about the realities of the film business and how you can get involved without getting ripped off!
Now if you are going, Friday night’s concert entertainer is Candace Charee, and she needs some volunteers to be ” back up dancers for my show lol just like 2-4 people on stage being silly and acting like a part of my show.” Candace is a great singer with a fun personality, so if you are game you can contact her at candacecharee@gmail.com  or via her MySpace (which, check it out anyway because it gives you a sampling of her music).
