Three new 'Breaking Dawn' Comic-Con promo character cards revealed

Tonight, three Comic-Con promo character cards from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 have been unveiled by USA Today. The characters featured are “Bella” (Kristen Stewart), “Edward” (Robert Pattinson), and “Jacob” (Taylor Lautner), and each are accompanied on the two-sided cards by mini-bios.

For “Bella,” the biographical information contains her full, married name for the first time (“Isabella Marie Swan Cullen”), finally considers her part of the “Cullen Coven,” and cutely lists her date of transformation as “tbd” (or “to be determined”). Also, for special abilities, it is noted, “Her mind is impenetrable; no one can read her thoughts unless she allows it. She can shield herself from all types of physical attacks.”

The note also contains a quote from her: “Yeah, I’m ready.”

That really says it all, right?

For “Edward,” little is new except his own quote: “I’ve been waiting a century to marry you, Miss Swan.”

With “Jacob’s” card, his group listing contains two names: the Quileute Wolf Pack (a.k.a. “Sam’s” group) and then The Black Pack, his own new pack, headed by him and followed by “Leah” and “Seth Clearwater.” Appropriately, then, his quote is: “I am the grandson of a chief. I wasn’t born to follow you or anyone else.”

Last October, Twilight fans were presented with a range of new cast members who would portray the varying new coven vampire characters brought forth by Breaking Dawn. One of the most anticipated of those casting announcements was for the unique role of "Zafrina," the Amazonian Coven vampire who can project visual illusions into the minds of her subjects.
The one chosen for that role was Judi Shekoni, who hails from the U.K. Shekoni has been a working actress for more than a decade, and she is one of the more enthusiastic new cast members for The Twilight Saga, as she was, prior to becoming "Zafrina," a big fan of the series.
Below is an exclusive interview with Shekoni about the Twilight series and more.

• You were a fan of the Twilight series before you got the role of Zafrina in Breaking Dawn, so when you read the series, did you picture yourself as any of the characters?

Yep, I was a fan. Well, when you read a book you always see yourself as being the character that is telling the story so I guess I lived all the books as Bella, but thinking about it I would have made a very strange and unusual Bella!

• Did being a fan make auditioning for the role that much more intimidating or was it easier because you had confidence in your knowledge of the story?

I felt more confident than usual because of my knowledge of the story and the characters; Twilight has a definite feel and style to it that would be hard to pick up from one scene.  I felt I was already inside the world and had lived the lives so I definitely felt I had a good advantage!

2010 was an interesting year for the Twilight series. To review: 'Twilight' in 2010: the best moments of the year for the 'Saga'. Now that it’s almost 2011, it’s time to think of what Twilight fans have to look forward this year. With the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 coming on November 18th, it’s sure to be a good one! Here are ten of the most exciting moments yet to come in 2011.

More filming

Filming on Breaking Dawn has been going on for a month (give or take) now, and it is expected to pick back up from the cast and crew’s winter holiday break on January 3rd. While we know that the Baton Rouge set of Breaking Dawn is locked up tightly, the cast has never been more active on Twitter than it has been this go-round. So, hopefully we’ll keep getting bits and pieces of information from them – not to mention some more of those special Breaking Dawn snapshots Bill Condon (director) has been doling out (for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so far). This should tide us over until . . . .

THE OFFICIAL GUIDE!

At lastttttt . . . On April 12th, Stephenie Meyer’s Official Guide will hit stores. It’s been a long time coming, and fans have been very eager to see what Meyer has cooked up to explain any missing pieces in the Saga. If Bree Tanner was any indication of what was in store with the Guide, it should be a very interesting addition to the collection. The same will be true if Volume 2 of the Twilight Graphic Novel hits stores this year.

‘Twilight,’ ‘New Moon' and Taylor Lautner receive Kids' Choice Awards nominations

The nominations for the 2010 Kids' Choice Awards are in, and the Twilight series has been recognized in quite a few categories!

First of all, 2009's The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second film in the series, is now nominated for "Favorite Movie" (alongside Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

Additionally, the Twilight series (by Stephenie Meyer) is nominated, once again, for "Favorite Book." The Twilight series is nominated alongside the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series (by Jeff Kinney), the Vampire Diaries series (by L.J. Smith), and Where The Sidewalk Ends (by Shel Silverstein).

At the 2009 Kids' Choice Awards, the Twilight series was nominated against the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books (as well as the Harry Potter series) and won.

Taylor Lautner (who portrays "Jacob Black" in the film series) is nominated for "Favorite Movie Actor" alongside Zac Efron, Shia LeBeouf, and Tyler Perry.

Finally, Twilight soundtrack contributors Linkin Park are nominated for "Favorite Music Group." (They contributed the song "Leave Out All The Rest" to the 2008 album.)

The 2010 Kids' Choice Awards debuts live on March 27th at 8:00 p.m., and much more information about the show can be found here.

'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson helping Hawaiian schools

You've gotta hand it to Robert Pattinson for being a charitable guy. It has just been announced that Pattinson ("Edward Cullen" in The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and "Tyler" in Remember Me) is pitching in for a local Hawaiian Montessori school fundraising drive by donating autographed posters and a Twilight book for the Montessori Hale O Keiki’s annual fundraising gala, "The Orchid Ball."

Pattinson's signed gear will go up for auction at "The Orchid Ball" on February 5th, and it appears that proceeds will go to benefit the local Montessori school program.

Nice guy, huh?

You might remember some of Pattinson's other charitable contributions of late. Last spring, Pattinson auctioned off a smooch for AMFAR (while promoting Remember Me at Cannes), and only recently, Pattinson presented for George Clooney's famed "Hope for Haiti" telethon (in London, England) with the following speech:

'Twilight' star Michael Welch to host concert for the homeless

It has just been announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Michael Welch will be hosting a special benefit concert in Los Angeles on March 2nd (at the Roxy) to help raise awareness for homelessness.

According to one source, Welch will be teaming up with Nashville band SHIROCK and other special guest celebrities to hold the concert, and the event will not be a ticket-based one. Instead, attendants are simply to bring clothing and cash donations for the local homeless population.

The band, SHIROCK, is debuting their new album entitled "Everything Burns," so the event is appropriately to be titled "Everything Burns in Hollywood." The specific charity being aided by the concert is the Midnight Mission.

Admission to the event is limited, so those interested in attending should email the organizers to gain VIP access. You'll just need to tell them how many are coming, any company you're with, and your name.

David Slade says 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' is in 'phase 1' studio screening

(via @TwiExaminer) Despite what might've been murmured around the forum rumor mill, the first screening of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - by "anyone out of editorial" that is - is happening now, according to a recent update issued by the film's director, David Slade.

According to him, today is a "big day" as the first "director's cut" is at "phase 1" with the studio's first screening of the film.

After months and months of reading Slade's countless updates about the post-production process (which seems, by the way, incredibly taxing and tedious), it seems that things are finally coming to a head and the editing process is nearing completion.

A director's cut of a film, of course, is not the final cut (and it probably won't even be made available to the public). The final cut is usually reserved for someone in the studio, who can make a few adjustments here and there to make the film more presentable in the box office. Those changes, for the most part, are not usually drastic. (Obviously, with varying studio interests and agendas, that statement is a heavily case-by-case matter. Who's to say how many changes will be necessary for Eclipse.)

Anna Kendrick receives a BAFTA nomination!

Yesterday, the BAFTA 2009 Nominations (that is, British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) were announced, and Anna Kendrick was one of the nominees!

She was nominated in the category for "Supporting Actress" for her work in Up In The Air.

Her co-stars in the film, George Clooney and Vera Farmiga, were also nominated, and the film itself received nominations in the categories of "Editing," "Best Film," and "Adapted Screenplay." The full list of nominations is available here.

Kendrick's Twilight series co-star Kristen Stewart is also in the running for the "Rising Star" BAFTA Award.

Jamie Campbell Bower's 'Winter in Wartime' on the Academy Awards shortlist

So, there might be more than one Twilight series star at the Academy Awards this year. All along, it's been a supposition here that Anna Kendrick and her film Up In The Air would be the Twilight series' connection to the Oscar's, but, apparently, Jamie Campbell Bower and his 2008 film Oorlogswinter (translated to Winter In Wartime) is already on the shortlist for Oscar contention.

Winter In Wartime is shortlisted, according to a recent press release, in the category for "Foreign Language Film." It sits alongside eight others upon the short list - a dramatic jump from the sixty-five originally in contention.

The film's director, Martin Koolhoven, issued a twitter message to Bower about the listing, saying "Yo Jamie. We're on the shortlist."

Bower was present with Koolhoven at the Rome Film Festival, where the film received "Best Film in the 'Alice nella Citta' selection."

Twilight Examiner talks to Tyson Houseman on New Moon & Eclipse

For starters, Houseman revealed that there really was some coalescence between the on-screen relationship between he and his wolfpack co-stars and that which existed off-screen.

Said he, "The relationship between myself and my cast members really did reflect the relationship of the characters, because when we filmed New Moon, I was the only character who was not yet part of the wolfpack, and so I had a different shooting schedule and different costume work and hair and make up etc. While we all became friends, I still did not get to see the rest of the guys as much as they did, and so they all had a bit more of a bonding experience than I did. Although during the filming of Eclipse, my character is part of the pack and so I got to spend a lot more time with the guys."

Though becoming a part of the Twilight series meant he was photographed by paparazzi and fans even before the initial casting announcement was released, he tries not to let it get into his head. "At first I really didn’t know what to think about it, and I felt that I didn’t deserve that kind of attention. I try not to let stuff like that get to me, it’s very important to me to stay grounded and stay true to myself," he said.

20 Great Soundtracks from 2009 (A Countdown of Movies, Video Games and TV that rocked)

Now that 2009 is quickly becoming a fleeting memory, all the major media outlets are scrambling to remind the public of what it SHOULD be remembering as the best and worst of the year. Nine times out of ten, these lists are ham-fisted, shameless plugs for that which was the most popular, what is most likely to win awards, with smatterings of unknown indie releases simply to prove that the “experts” aren’t the nose-upturned snobs we know they are.
Whatever happened to culling lists because they were fun? Why not make a list of things that you genuinely like, without any kind of ulterior (or advertising-linked) motive? Ham-fisted concoctions like those you see in mainstream magazines only continue to act as ego-stroking that spoon-feeds us until we become so reliant on those “experts” to tell us what is “good” and what is not. And we ultimately forget that the “experts” are merely people with opinions…just like us.
This is why I agonize over making “best of” lists, because it only serves to express my own personal opinion. If you read any list you find online, you will undoubtedly see a string of comments of both praise and complaint – praising the writer for including some of the reader’s favorites (which was actually a coincidence), or chastising the writer for “forgetting” to include certain things or flat-out telling him/her that he/she is wrong in his/her choices and rankings.

9. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON (Alexandre Desplat) – Go ahead, call me a sellout, but Desplat’s motifs on this score will not leave my head. I was actually agonizing over which Desplat release to include on this list (he did seven scores for 2009), and I had narrowed it down to this one and Coco Avant Chanel. And while Coco was ultra-elegant and sophisticated, it ultimately seemed formulaic for Desplat’s ability. New Moon, on the other hand, is what happens when a composer truly immerses himself in his music. Each chord progression is a different emotion, swelling and swooning as it reaches its impending detonation. Whether or not you’ve seen the movie, it is challenging not to be moved by Desplat’s work herein.

Well, at this point, the trend is pretty hard to miss - The Twilight Saga: New Moon has undeniably become a pop culture figurehead feature of the year 2009.
Apparently, in the viral video viewings department, New Moon sits in the lead of viral sensations of 2009 - mostly joined on the top ten list by popular musicians for their music videos.
Flanked by mega-hits like Beyonce's "Single Ladies," Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," and even Suan Boyle's Britain's Got Talent audition video, the New Moon trailer took its rightful places as the most viewed viral video of 2009 with 592,049,402 views, according to Music Week.
Others videos on the top ten list for the year are Michael Jackson's "Beat It," Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," Lady Gaga's "Just Dance," Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," and Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat."

The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Nikki Reed came onto Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to talk about things going all the way back to her days with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke on the set of Thirteen.

She discussed the fact that she wasn't even planning on being a castmember for the film until she was later asked during the casting process (while she was assisting selection).

Interestingly enough, Reed discussed what her upcoming plans for life include, and that spawned a rather heated discussion about the efficacy of her decisions with Jimmy Kimmel.

Certainly one of the more involved discussions he's had on the show in a while . . . perhaps the Twilight ratings booster news made it to Kimmel himself?

David A. Slade, director of “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was working the Sunday after Thanksgiving, as he had already said he would.

He provided, via Twitter, a fascinating early glimpse into the editing process of what is certainly one of the most eagerly awaited films of the summer. He writes:

Working Sunday, battle sequences coming together, first half of film feeling very emotional, still early days."

And there is no doubt a lot of film to be edited before some of the other post-production work can be done.  Slade is keeping his promise to keep franchise fans up to date on the progress of the third film in the extremely lucrative “Twilight” series. Although “New Moon” was bested by the true story football saga “Blind Side” on Thanksgiving day, it did end up taking the weekend overall.

Boy if director David Slade isn't filling some big shoes . . .

With The Twilight Saga: New Moon in theaters busting up records and expectations, it's no wonder post-production work for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is in full swing.

Slade, who's been an absolute powerhouse in Twitter Twilight fan updating, has issued some new information about what's going on in the Eclipse world.

"The Eclipse post crew have been on Thanksgiving break, all back in Monday, some of us earlier, until then we drink coffee, plan & prepare," he said on November 28th. Sure enough, just a few hours ago, he updated his followers once again, saying "Working Sunday, battle sequences coming together, first half of film feeling very emotional, still early days."

'Twilight' star Kellan Lutz's next project, 'Cedars of Lebanon'

He's been in the Emmy-winning series Generation Kill, the Twilight saga, and now Kellan Lutz will appear in Cedars of Lebanon.
According to The Wrap, Lutz has just recently signed on for the film - which will mark the directorial debut of Bradley Gregg - as one "of two brothers who are largely abandoned by their father and forced to grow up by themselves." Cinema Blend is referring to the film as a "family drama."
Gregg's company, Eventide Fields, is recounting the storyline as follows:

"Cedars of Lebanon" is a bittersweet tale of redemption, the story of Barry Deutchman’s ride upon the wave of his narcissistic father’s abandonment. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley during the 70's, this latch key kid struggles to thrive and grow where he is planted...atop very shallow roots. Forced to take care of his desperate single mother and angry younger brother…all while trying to heal his own wounded heart…he hits one brick wall after another. The story unfolds as Barry matures from boy to man. A self-medicating actor…with a young wife and kids of his own to nurture…he blindly sets off down the universal road of unbroken cycles. The reality portrayed in this cross-generational, character driven drama explores the progression and consequences of dysfunction in one American family. In another Twilight Examiner exclusive, I had the pleasure of speaking with Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon!  In this interview, Edi talks about his experience on the set of New Moon, watching New Moon with Stephenie Meyer, and his take on the Billy Burke/Robert Pattinson affair!

Are you excited for everyone to finally see New Moon?
Edi: I am! I’m very, very excited. I think it’s gonna be pretty awesome. I talked to Taylor the other day, and he’s actualy seeing the final cut right now as we speak. (Oct. 30th)
Have you seen that yet?
Edi: I saw it a month and a half ago, and now it’s the final cut. I didn’t see the final, final cut.
I spoke to Billy Burke a few days ago, and he said that the film came out beautifully.
Edi: Billy Burke is one of my favorite actors from that movie. 

Billy also let me in on the secret of him and Rob having an affair going on. It has been amazing they’ve been able to keep it a secret.
Edi: [laughs] I knew about it! Yeah, I saw Rob trying to hypnotize Billy with his eyes. [laughs]
Had you ever heard of the series before auditioning?
Edi: No, I hadn’t. Before my audition, I didn’t know that the books existed. As a matter of fact, I was so thrown off by the material that I didn’t even really want to go to my audition. It was supernatural, so I really didn’t have any interest in that. But when I got the part and read the books, I was so glad that I went into my audition and did a good job. Because it’s more than just a supernatural story. It’s a romance, and it’s beautifully done, too.
Have you become a devoted fan of the books after getting the part?
Edi: I have, I have.
Which is your favorite book from the series?
Edi: I say this a lot. I love Twilight, because it’s the first book we read that hooks us into the series. It’s the reason why we fall in love with the entire Saga. It introduces the characters so well, and then you start your journey. So..Twilight. For my character specifically, I like New Moon.  

Stephenie Meyer actually said you scared her in New Moon.
Edi: Yeah. Well it was sort of a joke. I told her that my goal would be to scare every 14-year old girl in the world....she laughed at me. She was like “Edi, I’m sorry to break it to you, but you’re so sweet and we know you and we love you. You have a baby face, so I don’t think your going to scare anybody.” I think she was speaking mainly from a place of knowing me personally. When she saw the movie, she said, “Edi, I have to tell you, you got me. You were creepy, so congratulations, I think you’ve got skill”.
Well, I can tell you personally from the trailer, you’ve definitely nailed the creepy look.
Edi: Yeah. I love the new look that they gave Laurent. The instant I wore the super-red contacts and had my skin paled out, I just sort of instantly transformed.
Were you shocked when you first saw yourself in full hair and makeup?
Edi: Yeah. For Twilight, yeah I was. It was such a huge transformation. I liked it because if I buy myself as a different person, it’s easy for me to commit to whatever the circumstances are. It really helps with my psychological transformation. A lot of time I like trying to find out what the character looks like, how they walk, what they sound like. And then go to the emotion after that.
What is your favorite memory from the set?
Edi: Oh, there’s so many great memories. Um, my favorite memory…..Working on the movie was priceless. It was one of the greatest experiences of my career. I would have to say just the general cast camaraderie. How everyone just gelled together, and really appreciated each other, and I am really grateful to be a part of the magic. So I would say most memorable moment was having dinners with the other cast members.
You had no problem seeing Kristen as your prey? What did you do to get into that mindset of the character?
Edi: Oh yeah. Zero. I mean, when Chris yells “action”, Edi’s gone and Laurent’s there. What Laurent wants to do, is he wants to eat Bella, so that’s what I wanted to do. [laughs] The first thing that I thought to myself is, “There’s nothing in this world that I cannot do. I’m powerful, and I’m hungry right now. What I want to eat is standing right in front of me.” [laughs]
What drew you to Laurent’s role?
Edi: I love playing bad guys. They are so fun, and there’s something great about being able to be bad. Because I’m not that way at all. So when I get to play those characters I get to have fun and do what can’t be done. So I was going for that aspect of it, and I’ve never understood vampires. I get them to some level, I just didn’t understand them. But I’ve learned that vampires are sort of the best version of a superhero. Not an actual hero, but another version of these characters that we all wish we could be. To have super strength, super speed and all of that. I learned that I get to play that all together, and that’s awesome. It was really cool to get to play a vampire.

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' premiere lights up Los Angeles

For those of you who hail in from Jupiter, The Twilight Saga: New Moon's premiere took place tonight in Westwood, California.

After fans waited for days, after the stars finally got themselves into one place (after whirlwind tours of, literally, the globe) to celebrate this film - inarguably one of the biggest of this year (and, with recent Fandango stats, all time).

The scene from the middle of the red carpet was, to say the least, very bright. One by one, the stars of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and their friends made their way onto a small stage to be introduced to the crowd (most of them at least) before being released onto the long-stretch red carpet for the whole world to see.

Since there was a live internet feed through MySpace, the world had access to attendants like Stephenie Meyer, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner made their way down the carpet.

While there were some surprise guests, like 50 Cent and Jamie Kennedy, most of the line-up included those cast on either The Twilight Saga: New Moon or The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and their affiliates (like Emilie de Ravin from Robert Pattinson's Remember Me and Joan Jett, who Kristen Stewart portrays in The Runaways).
