Summit Executives, Melissa Rosenberg, and Chris Weitz Give Credit To Harry Potter Films
Evening All,
Thanks to our Elite Affie Twilight Lexicon for the Tip! See more on USA Today
Via @TwilightLexicon From @USAtoday
Erik Feig(a Summit Executive), Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight Saga screenwriter) and Chris Weitz (the director of The Golden Compass, New Moon and A Better Life) have cited the Harry Potter films as industry inspirations and changers. In the above photo, taken at the A Better Life premiere, Erik Feig is standing to Chris Weitz’s immediate left:
Erik Feig:
‘”There was a sea change with Harry Potter,” says Erik Feig, president of worldwide production at Summit Entertainment, which has made the Twilight movies. “The story has a younger protagonist, but the book series and the movies are greatly enjoyed by older people, too. I devoured the first book and gave it to every grown-up I knew. We saw the same thing with Twilight. We did not ghetto-ize it as a young-adult movie. Nor did they with Harry Potter. They drew all audiences. It was an inspiration to us.”
Chris Weitz:
“The impact of the Potter series has been tremendous in that it has essentially become the idea of a modern franchise,” says director Chris Weitz (Twilight: New Moon; The Golden Compass). “They latched onto something that has its own sequels built in. Now everyone is looking for a literary property that extends enough for them to keep on building.
“It’s led to this speculative bubble in mystical young-adult fiction. Twilight found its own way to hit upon the hunger for the supernatural and a particular time of life. But if you look at the bookshelves now, half of what is coming out in (young-adult) fiction is about a werewolf or a vampire or angels or demons. The other half is about magic and wizardry.”
Melissa Rosenberg:
“The Harry Potter filmmakers and screenwriter Steve Kloves really respected the fans,” says Melissa Rosenberg, who has written the screenplay for each Twilight movie. “When you’re adapting a book series and you have that kind of fan base, you really have to deliver. You can’t just use the books as a jumping-off basis for another story. When I see a Harry Potter movie, I forget what is missing. Because Kloves is taking me and those kids on the same emotional journey as the book does.”
This is really a not to be missed article. Check it out on USA Today

Hey All!
Thanks to our elite affiliate Twilight Examiner for the tip.
via @TwiExaminer via Variety.com
Now that scripting is done (and shooting is underway) for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is taking on new projects.
The first new gig for Rosenberg is, according to Variety, a forthcoming ABC series entitled AKA Jessica Jones.
Apparently, Rosenberg is also serving as an executive producer on the project - which she has done for Dexter as well - and she has a new company coming into the mix entitled Tall Girls Production.

"AKA Jessica Jones" . . . is [about] a superhero ("Jewel") who winds up with post-traumatic stress disorder and gets out of that biz. Jessica, now in her early 30s, decides to keep far away from others gifted with superpowers and to open her own detective agency. But once she settles down, she realizes she still has a drive to help people -- and finds herself assisting other superheroes. Insiders said Rosenberg was drawn to Jessica Jones because the character is unlike most female leading roles on network TV: deeply flawed but with a biting sense of humor.Get the details here.

Melissa Rosenberg on Name Confusion and Launching a Career

Thanks to our elite effie Twilight Lexicon for the tip :)
via @TwilightLexicon via @TheWrap
The Wrap has a great interview with Melissa Rosenberg. She tells the story of trying to get people to read her material, trying to get an agent, and some name confusion that happened along the way at her first big meeting:
“I’m like, Wow, what did she tell them? This is fantastic! I send them the script, and then I go in to meet with one of them. Everyone in the agency wants to meet with me, and I’m going, This is amazing. And one of them says, Yeah, we just made a deal with your mother. And I’m going, Okay, my mother’s been dead 10 years, so you guys are great!
As it turned out, they thought I was Joan Rivers’ daughter, because her name was Melissa Rosenberg also. I had this nepotism going for me without being related to anyone. Liz Glotzer knew I wasn’t Joan’s daughter, but her assistant didn’t, and her assistant told the other person, who told all the agents and that’s why they wanted to read me. But some of them actually did read the script, including someone over at the Irv Schechter Company, and they called. I said, I’ve gotta tell you right away, I’m not Joan Rivers’ daughter, but they read it anyway and that was how I got my first agent.”

The Twilighters
Thanks to a team of brilliant women, the Twilightsaga has grossed $1.8 billion worldwide, making it one of the most formidable franchises ever. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg scripted Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn parts 1 and 2, all based on Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful novels (she's sold a record 85 million books to date and is also a producer). Summit Entertainment's Nancy Kirkpatrick (president of worldwide marketing) is responsible for launching a shrewd social network ad campaign that is credited with heightening fan anticipation, while Summit's executive VP and head of physical production, Andi Isaacs, helped shape the modern tween-noir look of the film. And of course, there's the vehicle's star, Kristen Stewart, whom the franchise couldn't live without—and frankly, vice versa.

NBC PopcornBiz: Melissa Rosenberg Gets to Expand on Breaking Dawn
Hey Everyone,
Melissa talked to NBC PopCornBiz and our Elite Affie Twilight Lexicon reports...
Watch the Another Point Of View Part....(It has to do with our name *winks*)
Via @TwilightLexicon Via @TwilightMOMS From NBC PopCornBiz
One of the things that we always look forward to in the Twilight movies is the fact that point-of-view is expanded. The books, other than for one section on Eclipse and one section on Breaking Dawn, are from Bella’s point-of-view. So unless Bella saw something with her own eyes, we only get to hear about it and not really see it.
One of the best scenes in Eclipse, in our opinion, is the battle with the newborns and the fact that we get to see it and not just hear about it.
Melissa Rosenberg talked about this opportunity in Breaking Dawn with NBC’s PopcornBiz:

“I did actually [get to do that], because
we got to fill out the story because we’re doing the next two movies,”
said Rosenberg. “So there was room to play and expand on some of the
characters that Stephanie introduces. That was a lot of fun.”
“It’s a much more grownup movie – It’s an
adult story,” the writer said of evolving the franchise beyond its high
school origins. “The stakes are raised even higher because it’s not the
story of teens. It’s the stories of grownups, so we’re talking about
marriage and children and family – and these are pretty grownup things,
but sexy.”

Melissa Rosenberg on New Yorker Vampire Panel
Hey Everyone,
I really like this one...Melissa stood her ground...
Thanks to Twilight Lexicon for the Tip!
Enjoy!
Via @TwilightLexicon From @NewYorkercom
As part of the annual New Yorker Festival run by the magazine of the same name, Melissa Rosenberg sat on a panel with other authors who have penned or adapted vampire fiction. Fellow panelists included Stephen King who created controversy last year for comments made on the Twilight Series.
“These vampires are lost souls, Carroll said, the type that women long to make their “projects.” The sex, King pointed out, is invariably adolescent—“they just want to bite the girl’s neck”—and Rosenberg elaborated: the self-loathing Edward from “Twilight” is “actually very safe, because of his own morality.” King asked if there was a parallel between maintaining abstinence and not wanting to suck her blood? Rosenberg didn’t miss a beat: “Absolutely.”

'Twilight' screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to discuss vampire lore with Stephen King
Source Via @twiexaminer.

At this year's New Yorker Festival in New York City, Twilight series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be participating in a discussion panel on the subject of "vampires in popular culture" with none other than Stephen King.
Stephen King has written vampire lore novels before, including Salem's Lot, and, of course, Melissa Rosenberg has written the screenplays for Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
So, in other words, they both have experience in the vampire pop culture field.
Of course, most Twilight fans are hard-pressed to forget Stephen King's words about Stephenie Meyer, so there is bound to be a bit of dismay over the coupling involved for this panel.
It should be interesting - understatement - to hear how the two approach the issue as it is inevitable that the Twilight series will come up during those discussions. One has to wonder whether Stephen King will be deferential to the Saga's success and popularity, or if he will dismiss the Saga altogether and focus on other works of vampire fiction.
In any case, the New Yorker Festival takes place from October 1-3rd, and more information about the event is available here.

Melissa Rosenberg Interview With Writers' Guild of America
Here's a interesting article that Cullens News posted. Thanks for the tip! Source Via @cullensnewscom.

Written by Dylan Callaghan
In her tenure as sole scripter on the entire Twilight franchise, Melissa Rosenberg has experienced the screenwriting equivalent of the heady, harrowing arc of Bella Swan, the beloved human heroine at the center of the spectacularly popular teen vampire bestsellers-turned-blockbusters. Even as the franchise’s third installment, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, hits megaplexes everywhere and Rosenberg slogs through a marathon junket promoting the film, she’s already neck-deep in adapting the fourth and final book, the 900-page bone-rattler Breaking Dawn, into two separate films simultaneously. The twin closer has already set Twihards across the globe into a frenzy of speculation as to how the film will depict Bella’s visceral, nearly fatal half-human-half-vampire birth and her (SPOILER ALERT!) transformation to immortality.
Rosenberg has maintained her breakneck pace since late 2007, two months before the writers strike, when she was tapped to adapt Stephenie Meyer’s maiden book in the series, Twilight. Not only did she turn that first script around in a little more than two months to beat the strike deadline, but she’s written the franchise while juggling her co-EP-ship of the hit Showtime series Dexter. Time and the enormity of writing two scripts at once for Breaking Dawn drove her to leave Dexter behind, a show she counts as the best of her television career.
In a junket day chat with the Writers Guild of America, West Web site, Rosenberg discussed this new penultimate book and film, Eclipse, which grapples with Bella’s choice between her vampire love Edward and her werewolf friend Jacob, the challenges its action-heavy third act presented, and how she feels about life after Dexter and Twilight.
(Melissa Rosenberg will discuss her career and field questions on writing for film and TV at the Writers Guild Foundation's Writers on Writing event on Tuesday, July 13. Go to WGFoundation.org, for tickets.)
You’ve said you thought this current film, Eclipse, would be easy at first. Was that partially because you knew Breaking Dawn, your two-part adaptation of the final films of the Twilight series, was coming?
That was actually from the outset, separate from Breaking Dawn. Looking at the first three books, it seemed like it would be easier just because it had all this action. Of course, that was wrong. Thinking anything in writing is going to be easy is always…

In Breaking Dawn, there are a lot of new characters that hit the fold, particularly in the last of the three sections.
There were so many new vampire additions to the character list, in fact, that Stephenie Meyer added an index to the back so that relationships and associations between them could be more accessible to readers.
Among the new characters, some were paramount to the story - the Denalis, the Amazonian coven, Garrett, etc. - and the filmmakers for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 are going to have a weighty burden if they try to present us with each and every one of them.
According to Melissa Rosenberg (screenwriter for the two scripts)'s interview with MTV, there is a plan in place as to how to tackle this.
"[S]he hopes 'all of them will be there in one shape or another,'" MTV explains.
In the meantime, she wants to hear what fans have to offer in that arena as well.
Her Facebook page has served as a communication tool between herself and fans of the series, and she explained to MTV that she does take notes from what Twilight fans have to say on that page.
"I ask people to really weigh in with what are their favorite scenes in the books, what's important to them . . . And there generally seems to be a consensus about one scene or another. It's really helpful for me and I'll interact with them sometimes."
Hopefully, Melissa Rosenberg will check out some of the suggestions fans have made in comments on this article because there were some really great ones!
In the meantime, head over to her Facebook page and follow along to be a part of the filmmaking process!

Now that Eclipse is off and dominating, we don’t think it’s too soon to start chatting about the next installment in the Twilight franchise: Breaking Dawn.
Producer Wyck Godfry, who had quite the slip of the tongue lately (no complaints here!) recently confirmed the two-part film will be shot in Louisiana as well as back up in Vancouver.
But let’s get to the good stuff shall we? Like what movie rating Melissa Rosenberg foresees for Breaking Dawn, which will be her last Twilight screenplay:
“It will be sexier,” Melissa recently told us, noting she’s aware of fans’ petitions to make the two flicks R-rated thanks to a certain feathers flying Edward and Bella sex scene.
“I think we can get awfully sexy with a PG-13,” Rosenberg said nodding her head. “I’m not worried about the rating. I know a lot of fans are like, ‘We have to go R to do it justice,’ but I don’t think so. I think it’s going to be pretty hot. Way hot!”
As for Melissa’s future post-B.D., she’s ready to hang her fangs up.
“It’s really up to Stephenie [Meyer],” Rosenberg said when we asked if she would bring the inevitable Bree Tanner spinoffs to the big screen. With five screenplays under her belt, it’s clear Rosenberg is Meyer’s go-to gal, but it’s time to move on.
“If she wants to tell more stories I, as a reader, am hungry for them. I am probably done adapting,” M.R. dished. “It’s probably time for me to do something else, but never say never. Adapting Stephenie Meyer is a hell of a life. it’s been wonderful.
