The Twilight Saga Series Still a Big Part of Banned Book Week

Hey Everyone,
Great News for The Twilight Saga Series! They are once again  one of the ALA’s ten most frequently challenged books for 2009! Thanks to Twilight FB for the Tip!
Enjoy!

Via @TwilightFB Via @Twiligherz From @Yahoo

The “Twilight” series, first published in 2005, is featured by the American Library Association for Banned Books Week, which runs this year from Sept. 25 to Oct. 2.
One of the most popular fictional series of the past five years, “Twilight” has the keen distinction of also being one of the American Library Association’s Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2009. Writing about the supernatural is a surefire way to find your books banned. Fantasy, vampires magic, the supernatural and even science-fiction books are grouped in with Satanism, the occult and witchcraft by those who attempt to have the books removed from library shelves.
Vampires are easy targets for book banning, as the banning of the “Vampire Academy” in Texas proves. Even with its vast popularity and cross-marketing machine (from books to movies, game boards and school supplies), the “Twilight” series by Stephenie Meyer has been challenged and either banned or returned to school library bookshelves.

Hi Everyone!!
Found this article about a book.........
Enjoy Rafaela ;)

If your like me, after reading the Twilight Saga over and over you try to find another to tide you over. It took me a really long time to find a romance novel that even compared to Twilight. I was on another Twilight blog site, and found someone posted a review on this book, so i went on Amazon.com and read the reviews then went out and bought it.

This novel (Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater) is about a girl named Grace who was attacked by wolves outside of her home, and her yellow eyed wolf saved her from dying. For the next six years Grace looked outside her window looking for her yellow eyed wolf.

Sam is the wolf that watches Grace, but he has a secret. He is a shape shifter, and unlike Jacob Black, Sam only becomes a wolf in the winter, or colder months, and phases back in the spring to summer.

When Sam and Grace meet, she knows automatically that Sam is her yellow eyed wolf. They fall in love, but Sam has a secret. He thinks that this summer will be his last year has a human, and that he will never become human again. Making Sam and Grace's love impossible.

It is one of the most amazing novels that I've read since reading Twilight. I recommend this book to everyone! If your like me and like to read reviews before you go and pick up the book, head over to Amazon.com and search Shiver. I really hope everyone reads this book. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this book is!

For any girl looking for a boy who’s more Edward Cullen than Gossip Girl hottie, How to Date a Vampire is your helping hand to a happy ending.
A vamp boy is smart, he’s sexy, and he’s waiting to discover someone a little bit different; so
use this little lifesaver to show him what’s so special about you and set his pulse (if he had one) racing.

stop source of landing your own Vampire boy.
With space to write about your own close encounters, plus style advice and beauty tips that
are sure to slay him on sight, this is the only guide you’ll ever need to spotting a vampire
and knocking him (un)dead.
This handy guide will take you through every stage of the relationship: where to find your
fangsome fella, how to catch his eye (in the right way, naturally), ways to swap and share
your interests. Plus the perfect presents to give and get; great dates (and definite no-nos),
and how to deal with vamp living as you guys get closer.
There is even a crash course in crypt culture, including a look at vampire history’s biggest
names and the top ten vampire movies of all time. And, while we don’t want to rain on your
vampire parade, you’ll find plenty of safety advice along the way. After all, when you’re
looking for love, you don’t want to end up as lunch!

Examiner: Religion and philosophy in the 'Twilight' series tackled by professors in two new books

This is an interesting article... check this out.

Religion and philosophy in the 'Twilight' series tackled by professors in two new books
by Amanda Bell

Readers of the Twilight saga are well versed in the various conceptual underpinnings available in the books and characters - especially when it comes to the religious or philosophical concepts. Or are they?

Well, at least two professors have found the potential for furtherance of the issues worthy of publication.

Beth Felker Jones, author of Touched by a Vampire, is an Assistant Professor of Theology at Wheaton College in Illinois and the author of Mark of His Wounds: Gender Politics and Bodily Resurrection.

Her book Touched by a Vampire, promises to explore the Twilight series "through a biblical lens." According to the product description, "Some Christian readers have praised moral principles illustrated in the story, such as premarital sexual abstinence . . . But ultimately, Beth Felker Jones examines whether the story's redemptive qualities outshine its darkness." Its so-called darkness, it seems, is latent in its afilliation with its "teaching girls about love, sex, and purpose." Accordingly, the question is raised "Can vampires teach us about God's plan for love?"

The book will hit shelves on October 6th, and it is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Similarly, but worlds apart still, Rebecca Housel (a writing and literature professor at Rochester Institute of Technology) and J. Jeremy Wisnewski (an Assistant Professor of Philosophy who also wrote Family Guy and Philosophy: A Cure for the Petarded, The Office and Philosophy: Scenes from the Unexamined Life, X-Men and Philosophy: Astonishing Insight and Uncanny Argument in the Mutant X-Verse, and other academic books) have created Twilight and Philosophy: Vampires, Vegetarians, and the Pursuit of Immortality. Twilight and Philosophy has just been released in paperback on Amazon.com, and it promises to address questions such as "What can vampires tell us about the meaning of life?" and "Is Bella a feminist?"

While some of these types of questions have certainly been explored amongst the fandom (and even, at times, within this column), there are likely a range of questions that linger still. That said, would you be interested in reading works like these? Why or why not? Comment below and let us know!
